Make Up Make Over

Time to brush up on a few make up guidelines.

Did you know ...

Your mascara should be replaced every 3 months. With daily use air compromises the integrity of your product, drying out mascara resulting in oils to oxidize. Micro organisms can become trapped and flourish in a damp, dark environment.

Lipsticks & glosses should be replaced every 6 months. Natural oils can become rancid and with daily use dead skin cells can get trapped in tubs. A pro tip is to watch for colour changes or a distinct change in smell.

Cream based products should be replaced every 9 months. Again, microorganisms love creamy products and will flourish.

Brushes used for cream and liquid based products should be washed once a week. A brush shampoo ensures that the integrity of your brushes are maintained. Gently lather brushes with shampoo and rinse with water until it runs clear. Always ensure that brushes are dried flat and in a well ventilated area.... Remember, microorganisms love a damp, dark and moist environment. Do not dry brushes standing up as the water may lead to the adhesive disintegrating resulting in your brush integrity being compromised.

Brushes used with powder based products should be wash once every two weeks, unless you struggle with breakouts. Problematic skin types should wash brushes at least once a week. It is important to use a brush shampoo as it is gentle on brush fibers and free from harsh chemicals that may irritate your skin.

The health of your skin is greatly dependent on the skin care that you apply each day, but also your make up. As an extension of skin care, make up is there to support actives and enhance their function, not inhibit it. Choose your products wisely!
